Secondaries to target for passing/receiving props in Week 4
The best NFL secondaries to bet against through the air.
Through three weeks, I’m quite proud of the secondaries we’ve worked to circle here together, more often than not big games are happening opposite them. The exciting part is that we’re starting to get more reliable data, with the season now three weeks in the bag.
As we approach Week 4, I’ve got a list of 11 secondaries that I find to be struggling enough to load up player props against.
Who they are, why they’re here, and the players set to take advantage awaits. But first, best to see how Week 3 went for each.
Chicago Bears
Patrick Mahomes threw three touchdowns and finished with 272 yards before being pulled early in the third. Kelce, Rice, Watson, Moore and Valdes-Scantling all had solid days, and the Chiefs connected on four passes of 20+ yards.
Verdict
🟢 Chicago very much remains a defense to bet against in the passing game.
Denver Broncos
Tua Tagovailoa threw for 309 yards and four touchdowns in the 70-20 drubbing over Denver. Mike White then came in and chucked a 68-yard touchdown. Tyreek Hill had a massive day, going 9-157-1.
Verdict
🟢 This Denver defense is baaaad.
Houston Texans
Trevor Lawrence and the Jags put up a dud against Houston. Lawrence’s yardage was alright, 279 on the day, but no WR eclipsed 54 yards.
Verdict
🟡 I’m stubbornly going to give Houston one more week. They still rank favorably in explosive plays and yards allowed/pass attempt.
Indianapolis Colts
In rainy Baltimore, Lamar Jackson mustered only 202 yards, with Zay Flowers leading all pass-catchers with an 8-48 line.
Verdict
🟡 I’m willing to give Indy another go here and chalk this up to weather. If they shut down the Rams next week, that would be enough to sunset the Colts secondary until further notice.
Jacksonville Jaguars
CJ Stroud had a solid day, throwing for 280 on just 30 attempts. Tank Dell led the way for Houston WRs, finishing 5-145-1
Verdict
🟢 Jacksonville is a secondary I’ll happily continue betting against.
Los Angeles Chargers
Kirk Cousins had another massive day, finishing with 367 yards and three touchdowns. Justin Jefferson, TJ Hockenson, Jordan Addison and KJ Osborn all hit their overs. Jefferson was the big winner, finishing 7-149-1.
Verdict
🟢🟢 This team continues to get gashed deep and allow massive passing outings.
