Week 2 touchdown targets for each position

In advance of Week 1, we were primarily focused on 2022 numbers to guide our bets. We dove into which teams allowed the most touchdowns to each position, and then circled names to monitor to start the year.

The results:

  • Lions WRs ✅

  • Bengals RBs ❌

  • Colts WRs ✅

  • Saints WRs ✅

  • Commanders RBs ✅

  • Commanders TEs ❌

  • Ravens RBs ✅✅✅

  • Packers RBs ✅✅

  • Broncos RBs ❌

  • Eagles TEs ❌

  • Dolphins RBs ✅

  • Rams RBs ✅✅✅

  • Giants WRs ❌

I’d say all-in-all, pretty dang good. A sicko could have won massively on an Aaron Jones, Justice Hill and Kyren Williams 2+ touchdowns each parlay.

It’s an encouraging start, and now we have a week of fresh data to compare to 2022 numbers to whittle down our list of targets for Week 2 at each position.

A note: touchdowns are a fickle market. Additionally, this is the prime example of why I started this Substack. I’ll circle the spots and the players to consider. I might bet the wrong names, but these positions help give you a short-list of names to consider. How you play with that information is in your hands. You can bet what I do if you want, but there are always options.

Touchdowns allowed to each position

I had some minor success betting QB rushing touchdowns on Sunday, so I’ve brought in QB rushing touchdowns allowed as well. If a team allowed even one touchdown to that position in Week 1, I’ve highlighted them green. As the season winds on, this will get a bit cleaner.

2022 targets who allowed 1+ TD to that position in Week 1

  • RBs vs. Arizona

  • WRs vs. Buffalo

  • RBs vs. Chicago

  • TEs vs. Detroit

  • RBs vs. Houston

  • WRs vs. Jacksonville

  • WRs vs. Kansas City

  • RBs vs. LA Chargers

  • TEs vs. Miami

  • WRs vs. Pittsburgh

  • RBs vs. Seattle

  • WRs vs. Tennessee

Teams that led the way in touchdowns allowed Week 1

Italicized names represent showing up on both lists

  • Carolina: 3 TDs allowed to RBs

  • Houston: 3 TDs allowed to RBs

  • Seattle: 3 TDs allowed to RBs

  • LA Chargers: 3 TDs allowed to WRs

So, this is quite a list. 14 positional groups conceivably are in intriguing spots for Week 2.

What you’ll find below:

  • Who faces off against these defenses in Week 2

  • Their usage stats from Week 1 (snaps, red zone usage, total targets/carries)

    • 2022 red zone numbers when applicable

  • A short-list of names I find most intriguing after completing the run-through of each group

Week 2 players and groups who face touchdown targets

Detroit Lions Week 1 snap counts: Jahmyr Gibbs eased in vs. Chiefs - Pride Of Detroit

Detroit Lions RBs vs. Seattle

  • David Montgomery: 4 red zone carries, 21 total carries, 55 snaps, 1 touchdown

  • Jahmyr Gibbs: 1 red zone carry, 7 total carries, 2 targets, 19 snaps

We got our first look at the Lions new backfield, and it was David Montgomery easily pacing the team in carries and a red zone role. Montgomery punched in a touchdown from eight yards out and seems likely to continue leading in RZ rushing attempts.
